Aida cloth sizes

How do you calculate cross stitch fabric? Aida Cloth can be purchased in small pieces for individual projects. Common sizes are 12x, 15xand wide yardage.


Some has metallic threads interwoven, which can be nice for holiday and special occasion projects. They range from count through to count.

So if you’re a beginner you might start stitching on count, probably the most common size available. Aida cloth comes in different sizes or counts. By making smaller stitches, you can fit more of them into one inch, meaning the stitch count of your fabric will be higher. Tapestry needle: size 0. Stitch with: strands.


It has a natural mesh that facilitates cross stitching and enough natural stiffness that the some crafters do not need to use a hoop. Aida does come in smaller sizes but not nearly as small as linen.

If the division is not even, substitute the closest Aida count you can get. Remember, if you are stitching from a kit, be careful with what fabric you substitute so that you will not run out of floss. The fabric should be inches wide by inches high. Just enter the width and height of the pattern in stitches or in inches (together with the fabric count that it was designed for) and then read off the dimensions for the fabric count you.
