Is it possible to make money beekeeping? How do beekeepers stay in business? How much do beekeepers make per hive? Depending on how many hives you have, you can make a profit.
However, it really depends on the season and nectar flow. There are start up costs when getting into beekeeping.
After that, you can expect a beekeeping profit per hive of around $ 600. It is good to start first from your inner circle, to sell honey to friends and family, so they can spread a word of how tasty and delicious it is, and it may bring you, other customers. The major risk in beekeeping is the one or more of your hives may die out or be attacked by a predator. I have always kept between about five and hives.
In fact, there are many ways to make money with beekeeping that most new and for-profit beekeepers aren’t aware of. We often speak about what we can do for the bees, now let’s see what they can do for us. Bees do not require a ton of property or equipment to maintain, and they produce a valuable commodity that sells well worldwide, which makes urban beekeeping an actual possibility for many people with little or no experience.
We have discussed the concept of Two and a Half Hives over the past year or so, and this is a major focus of my latest book, Bee -sentials: A Field Guide.
If the bees disappear, so does that foo making every honeybee colony – and every beekeeper – a valuable resource. I use Quicken to collect my monthly and yearly expenses and revenue. I can send the Quicken file to my accountant.
For those wondering is beekeeping profitable , one of the ways to make this a resounding yes is by having beekeeping start-up costs that are as low as possible. While there are certain items you can do without, some cannot be compromised. All of these may or may not possible for you, but it is worth knowing about. Bees don’t require a ton of property or equipment to maintain, and they produce a valuable commodity that sells well worldwide, which makes urban beekeeping an actual possibility for many people.
But the vast majority of beekeepers aren’t commercial. A hobby that (sometimes) makes a profit. In the UK there are ~20beekeepers.
Of these, the Bee Farmers Association represent the interests of the ~4commercial beekeeping businesses. Over of UK beekeepers therefore do not consider themselves as commercial. A beekeeper with a business plan can easily make money, even in the first year! Potential profits within the 1st year far outpace the normal years for a business to make a profit. Tax benefits are immediate and can be substantial.
A “What If” spreadsheet will answer this question. This can be a profitable side of beekeeping. Raising bees with success revolves around temperatures, weather conditions and foraging conditions.
As the bee farmer, you can only control some aspects of bee production. In a normal season it is quite feasible to achieve a profit over charges of 1 or even more. Also in beekeeping’s favour is the fact that you do not require acres of lan or any great physical strength to do it. The problem comes when you lose a large portion of your hives to the winter. As others have sai you need more than just honey.
Consider honey a product that will pay for your running costs and expansion. The real money is in nucs, queens, pollination, and other hive products. The basic kit and the first package of bees are manageable.
Beekeeping is more expensive than they imagined.
