How to cover a lampshade with fabric strips

How do you put Fabric on a lamp shade? Should you remove fabric from a lampshade? Want more info on this project, including written instructions?

Place lampshade on fabric , starting at the unfinished short edge and centering the height. Wrap fabric aroun smoothing out wrinkles as you go. End with the finished edge from Step 3.

I double check the fabric to be sure there are no wrinkles, and once the fabric is perfectly straight on the shade, I press the fabric firmly onto the adhesive strip all the way around , on the top and bottom edges of the lampshade. This lampshade frame has only vertical supports. Recovering a lampshade is. Which means, when I tied a strip of cloth from one vertical to the next, the straight line went right across the curve of the lampshade , leaving a huge. Cut fabric into 1-inch-wide strips.

Starting at top, tie a strip of fabric to the top corner of the frame. Wrap the strip around the metal to cover it,. Stretch the fabric over the next vertical wire and wrap it around and back over the wire.

Continue this until you have reached the end of that piece of fabric. Tie the fabric around the last wire it will reach. Remove any remaining fabric or paper from lampshades so that only the wire frames are exposed. Spray paint lampshade frames. Select a thin, light weight fabric so the light from the lamp will shine through better.

Depending on the shape of your lampshade , you will need to be careful about the pattern you choose. An even drum shade (where the top and bottom diameters are equal) will work with any pattern. Instructions Remove the trim or tape from the top and bottom of the drum shade. Peel it away carefully to avoid tearing the fabric or. Measure the height of the drum shade.

Wrap a cloth measuring tape around the shade to measure the circumference. Cut the wallpaper or fabric to the shade height by. Trim top and bottom flush with lamp. Let the glue get tacky. Align fabric and roll the shade on the fabric to attach.

Using a geometric pattern can make it a bit tricky to make sure the pattern is straight. Smooth with your fingers. Apply Tacky glue under seam edges of fabric to flatten and adhere.

Remove the hanging chain from the basket as you will not need it for this project. Gather your fabric scraps. For my lampshade I used several fabric patterns. I sorted the scraps by pattern in order. Tie one end of the first strip around one of the vertical wire pieces.

Using scissors cut and split the ends of each strip in two, just like this…. Then place the fabric on your lamp shade and tie the split ends under the ring. Do the same at the bottom.

Repeat the process on top of each vertical piece of metal. Step 1: For best , iron the fabric beforehand to remove creases. Otherwise, iron the fabric once cut to shape. Step 2: Lay the fabric out on a flat surface, backside facing up.

Place the seam or edge of the lampshade at one edge of the fabric , leaving enough room above and below because the round lampshade pattern will curve. Jul I have a couple craft projects to share that I created with fabric.
