Diabetes in Schools is an information and training program designed for families and schools to help them to better support students with type diabetes thrive at school. Registration with NDSS is free and open to all Australians who are diagnosed with diabetes. Your local diabetes organisation manages these support services. They’re usually either free of charge or come at a minimal cost if you register with the NDSS.

Their core business is the management, detection and prevention of diabetes and providing ongoing support for people with diabetes and their families and carers.
Funding to support this program is provided by the National Diabetes Services Scheme. The National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) is an initiative of the Australian Government administered with the assistance of Diabetes Australia. ADC is Australia ’s oldest and largest not-for-profit organisation focused on providing support and services nationally and internationally to people living with and at risk of diabetes , their families, carers, friends and allied health professionals.
Health support for diabetes. The Department of Social Services lists diabetes as a medical condition that is a recognised disability. Education and care services have a legal obligation to make reasonable adjustments for children with diabetes to enable them to participate in their education on the same basis as their peers. It also provides timely, reliable and affordable access to the NDSS support services and products.
Services are prioritised based on the CHSA Diabetes Service Clinical Priority Tool. Services in country are staff by diabetes specialist nurses and allied health professionals, working in local teams. Many of the nurses are credentialed diabetes educators and have significant experience in most areas of diabetes management and education. Peer Support Program JDRF’s Peer Support Program is a volunteer network that connects people who have been affected by T1D. Type Diabetes can be a frightening and overwhelming experience.
